i generally like to think of things i like and that i can relate to. and i love pop culture, films and comics. one of my ideas was to parody one of my favorite comic strips i read as a kid, Spy Vs Spy.

at first i tried to imagine what they would look like as animals and if there were any real world things that could resemble their cartoony and distinctive pointy faces without copying it with no reason. and i thought long and hard about it and BAM, venetian masks popped into my head. and they could be at a masquerade ball wearing black and white tuxedos, since they always wear black and white.

just to make sure no one else had done this before me, i did my due diligence and researched on google with various combination of words associated with my idea. and i couldn’t find anything with spy vs spy and venetian masks! i had some other ideas before and when i checked, i found out that some of those had been done already. but this time, i appeared to be the first!

so then i had to take this original idea for one of the cool t-shirts and execute it. since the characters always wore black and white, sin city came to mind. lots of comic imagery have great black and white artwork, but none have broken through to the mainstream like sin city. so i decided to do a mash up of these two things that i love.

i’m calling it “Assassins at the Ball”, i think it turned out nicely and i have submitted it to a contest for cool t-shirts. hopefully i will get printed by them. if not, i will produce it myself and sell it exclusively here on this site, where it will find a life and home for you guys to enjoy.

having seen some amazing cool t-shirts from all different art styles and varying levels of skill and craftsmanship, i firmly believe that if your funny t-shirt concept and idea are strong and good enough, anyone can make one. but don’t all run out yet, execution is very important and the less skill and experience you have the harder it will be to make it work. i’m simply saying it’s not impossible.

you just have to know you strengths and weaknesses and be realistic. someone with a drawing skill level of a kindergartner is not going to illustrate a cool or funny t-shirt design that looks like norman rockwell painted it.

so you could use any traditional art supply such as pencil and paper, ink pens, paints and brushes or use sculpture and photograph your creation. even photographs could be taken and manipulated on the computer using any number of fantastic art software, like photoshop, illustrator and painter. hell if you’re good enough you may be able to pull off something cool and funny using MS Paint. ha.

basically don’t let anything stop you from executing your concept for others to see and experience.

just doing quick little sketches of your funny t-shirt ideas in different variations will give you a chance to try out different approaches and make little adjustments in sketch form that would be huge changes in your final t-shirt designs. and yes, even i’ve just come up with a very strong funny t-shirt design based on my first idea, but it’s always better to test out your options and go back if your original ideas was cooler and funnier.

so don’t be lazy, trust me, the extra time you spend developing your funny t-shirt idea will be so worth it knowing you created the best funny t-shirts you could create.

i usually try to look for inspiration from things that make me laugh or i find clever when thinking about making funny t-shirts. anything from tv shows, movies, comics and even just walking around and experiencing and observing the world around. if you have a sense of humor and can see funny things or realize something is cool for a t-shirt then it doesn’t matter where you found inspiration.

one of the most important things is to come up with a funny t-shirt idea that YOU find funny. and write it down or sketch it out so you don’t forget. there have been many times, i thought of a cool t-shirt idea and then agonized over what it was when i forgot it.

creating a home for a variety of original funny t-shirts and cool t-shirts for girls and guys. all the artwork will be original and drawn. i always wanted a place i could find awesome t-shirts or very funny t-shirts that were original and not mass produced so so many t-shirts in malls and department stores. one of the things i hate is buying a t-shirt that so many people have too. i want to be original and unique.  only a limited number of my t-shirts will be available to keep it fresh. so i hope you will visit often to see what new t-shirt designs have been put up. i also love storytelling through illustrations and would love to start a new trend in creating cool art t-shirt designs that tell a story. both funny or cool, using great artwork and a variety of different styles and colors. so i hope you will bookmark me and come here for funny t-shirts and cool t-shirts. enjoy the creative.

Actually, T-shirts have only been with us since the 19th century.  Although its creator’s name is now lost to history, it is the general consensus that the original tee shirts were the results of cutting the one-piece union suit in half.  This way, the upper part could be tucked into the bottom half, which allowed for more convenience in wearing, using and undressing them.

It’s funny that for a time, T-shirts were worn only as undergarments.  It was only during the late 1800s when blue collar workers like stevedores and miners used T-shirts as outer garments especially during hot weather.

T-shirts were also issued by the United States Navy during the Spanish-American War in 1898.  Just like the popular versions today, these were short-sleeved, crew-necked white cotton undershirts worn under dress uniforms.  In case manual labor was required of the military men, uniform jackets were taken off so that the T-shirts became the work uniform, so to speak.

Eventually, T-shirts became the garment of choice not only amongst military men but also amongst civilians.  This was especially true in the agricultural sector when T-shirts became synonymous with farm work during the Great Depression.

But soon enough, the humble piece of clothing assumed a sexier, sassier and more glamorous appeal, thanks to Marlon Brando’s work in the movie adaptation of A Streetcar Named Desire.  Brando being Brando, one can credit him with pushing the T-shirt into the realm of fashion.

And what a revolution in fashion T-shirts made!  From the plain shirts of the 19th century, T-shirts now come in all shapes, sizes and styles as well as cuts, colors and come-ons that it is possible to live your life in T-shirts and still not run out of choices.

From undergarments, T-shirts have also become the outer garment of choice for many disparate sectors of society.  Thus, you will see the briefcase-toting executive wearing a T-shirt underneath his three-piece suit while the skateboarder uses a T-shirt for self-expression. Or others who want to display wearable artwork or just wear unique and funny t-shirts to share with others.  Or you see women in high heels wearing stylized T-shirts mingling in the subway with babies in graphic tees.

T-shirts have come a long way in fashion.  Is it not about time that you, too, start thinking of ways to revolutionize them?
